Open and Closed Events Defined

From da Prez (Harry L.)...  January 2001 STC Newsletter:

"Some of you may have heard about an issue that has was discussed at the last two business meetings. That is, who can attend "open" and "closed" events that are hosted by STC. This is an issue that has come up again and again for many years. It is now time to establish the rules and make everyone aware of what standards will be in effect. Please take time to read the minutes of the past meetings and then let your board members know how you feel about this issue. Basically, height standards will be enforced at "closed" events; under height non-members, friends and family may attend an event that is "open". There are a few exceptions to these basic concepts, but not many. The exceptions cover prospects that need support from a short friend and, out of town guests. The rare exceptions may be approved by two board members.

The board and I feel that once these guidelines are published and understood by everyone, that there will be less confusion and everyone will know, in advance, what height standards will be in place for any specific event. I hope that you read about what action the board has taken and support their actions. There was no need for a By Law change, this only has to do with attending events, not membership requirements or the conduct of club business."

EVENT ATTENDEE RESTRICTIONS - Closed Events

Effective January 1, 2001, those persons allowed to attend STC events will be restricted to the following persons unless the event is specified as an "open event" in the calendar of club events:

  1. Members in good standing of the Sacramento Tall Club and clubs affiliated with Tall Clubs International and their dates (one date per attending member)
  2. Height-qualified prospects and their guests (one guest per attending prospect)
  3. Two guests free for the host(s).
  4. Other guests which must be approved in advance by at least two members of the executive board.
