December 2005
Message from Dave F. ~ Message from Jeff D.

Dave F. (president@sacramentotallclub.org)

Hi TALLS,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  November was a banner month for STC.  We had over 100 attending the TFB and approximately 40 were new or returning prospects.  The following Saturday was our annual "Goods and Services" auction and again--well attended!!  I wish to thank all those who helped put on these great events and of course those that attended.
The end of Thanksgiving marks the start of the holiday season and of course STC has plenty of activities planned.  The "center" of our holiday schedule is the annual  party at racs on Dec. 17.  Rumor has it that a visit from  old St. Nick is planned.  Ole Santa may have some "help" from a couple of elfs, depending on how successful the arm twisting goes.
During my first message I indicated that from time to time another board member would step up and  write an article or message for the website.  This month  our  membership "guru", ( Jeff D.), has written an excellent article, so check it out.
In closing, have a great and SAFE holiday season and hope to see you at an upcoming event.

Until next month,
Prez Dave

Guest Board Member for December is Jeff D., our Membership "guru".
Hi Talls,

Dave (da Prez) Floyd has asked other board members to contribute messages for the website.  Because there is so much going on in the membership side of our club I, as the membership guy, get the December issue.

Right now the club has close to 100 members and in this respect we are one of the largest and most successful of the TCI member clubs.  So…….who cares?  Answer: YOU should!  There is no question that we all enjoy the company of our established friends and contacts in the club, but the truth is that the long term success and enjoyment of any social club depends on a continuous flow of new members, new ideas and diversity of membership.  With that perspective there are several efforts going on in your club to enhance your experience with STC.

First, to better focus on finding prospects and bringing them into the club, rac (Marketing Director for STC) will be focusing on potential members.  She has already developed  materials and a process for keeping data on these folks and maintaining regular contact.  As these folks are ready for membership they will become part of my bailiwick.

Second, a tremendously successful Tall Fall Ball.  Thanks to efforts by our new Marketing Director, rac, and her buddy Kaye we not only had a record turnout but about a third of those were new, prospective candidates for membership.  All that we talked to had a great time and felt very welcomed by club members.  Look for them at future events.

Third, rac and I are starting a program to get new Tall faces to attend our events and meetings.  Starting January 1 and running through the STC Anniversary Dance (March 25) we will recognize and reward members who refer prospects to our club.  The reward will be a free pass to an STC house party (a $10 value) and will go monthly to the person that generates the most referrals. (STC Board members are not eligible.)  Prior to the dance we will determine the winner who will receive a free ticket to the Anniversary Dance (inestimable value).  So, grab some of those STC referral cards and pass them out to Talls.  To get credit, write your name on the card, have the prospect mention your name when they come to an event or send their name (and if you can get it, a telephone number or email address) to rac before they show up.  We’ll take it from there.

And now the important part:  YOUR job.  Don’t panic, this will be easy and fun.  As mentioned earlier, keep some STC cards with you and pass them out when you see a potential tall member.  At meetings and events, we will recognize and identify any prospects present.  They are often shy, a new situation with lots of unfamiliar faces around, we’ve all been there.  It is really important for you to help put them at ease.  Make a point to say “hi” and welcome them.  Don’t know about you but I can still remember those one or two members that made a difference to me on my first visit to a new club and were responsible for me returning.

That’s the program.  Let rac or me know of any help we can give in your efforts to bring in and keep new members.  We will all benefit from the experience.
